Puma in final good deed of 2008...

This here is Joseph Pritchard, an eight-year-old from from Churchdown, Gloucestershire. Young Joe probably got the most original Christmas present going in 2008, when he received these customised pair of goalie gloves. With just two fingers and a thumb on each hand, the kind chaps at Puma heard that Joe's ambitions to become a Premier League goalkeeper were hindered by the fact he wasn't able to wear the average 'keeper glove.

And so they sent him four pairs of these bad boys, each with his name printed on the bottom. The Sun say that he loves them so much he even wears them indoors, which is nice and all that but as anyone knows with these goalkeeper gloves, they aren't half going to smell when he takes them off...

The "P" word can be mentioned....

After last week's 2-1 win, last night we came out narrow 4-3 victors. There's something about proper football scores like those that make it all the more satisfying. None of this 12-1 lark (honest...). And satisfied we certainly are after our latest victory guaranteed us promotion to Division One. Hurrah and all that. Though we can't quite help but feel that we've won a ticket to getting spanked every week...

Nonetheless we've the small matter of the league title to secure next week, needing only a point to confirm our place at the top of the tree. So imagine our surprise when all the lazy bastards in the office yet to manage an appearance for us suddenly popped and put their names forward...

Can it be true? Could the FA Cup really be great for a second season in a row? Well if this fourth round draw is anything to go by, then yes, it will be. The pick of the ties is the little game on Merseyside, while 'Arry gets another chance to dump out Manchester United with a brand new team, after previous hilarious successes with Bournemouth, West Ham and Pompey.

To be honest though, our favourite is the big Midlands clash, where angry Jock Billy Davies gets an immediate chance to get one over his old pals at Derby with Nottingham Forest. Not that we like to bang on about the "m***c of the cup", but the draw is pretty, er, magic...

Don't mention the "P" word...
It was the encounter the world was waiting for. That's right, it was the Pitch Invasion Monday Early Division Two top-of-the-table clash between Catflap FC and Bramble FC. And despite having only a skeleton squad after the majority of the office nicked off home for Xmas, we ran out 2-1 winners despite, in true Catflap tradition, going behind 1-0. So with a two-week Winter break we'll be top at Xmas and New Year. Just don't mention promotion.

Mainly because if we do go up we'll be spanked every week...

Despite being bottom of the league TSM United were anything but pushovers, and we were far from comfortable winners, despite the scoreline. Apparently fans can't even make the pub now...
Remember when we used to bemoan the fact that football fans were being priced out of going to their local football match, and were going to the pub to watch games instead? Those were the days indeed it seems, as a new survey from BT Vision has revealed that even the pubs are being ditched by skint punters in favour of sitting at home and watching it there. A whopping 34% of lazy sods, sorry, cash-conscious fans intend to spend less time watching the game at the pub this season than they did three years ago.

Worst hit will be pubs in Blackburn (65% of fans intend to watch at home), Manchester (63%) and Birmingham (61%), though this survey was done before Sam Allardyce's appointment as new Rovers boss so we've no doubt that more Blackburn fans will now flock to watch their new brand of exciting football...

1. No one wants to win the League. First Arsenal draw. Then Liverpool draw. Then Man Utd draw. Then Chelsea, er, draw. Does anyone want it? Aston Villa to win the League. You heard it here first...

2. Michael Owen is not staying at Newcastle. Great goal. Cracking win. Lukewarm post-match interview. Just admit it Mike, you're off...

3. Juande Ramos has his work cut out. We're no La Liga experts, but we do know that losing 2-0 to Barcelona is not an ideal start to managing Real Madrid when you've got only six months to prove yourself.

4. Hoffenheim are the new Hull. The German side who were playing third divison football only two years ago now top the Bundesliga going in to the winter break.

5. Former Man Utd players are victims of a managerial curse. After Bryan Robson's latest sacking earlier this year, Roy Keane has since been and gone, while Paul Ince and Mark Hughes cling desperately to their jobs. Steve Bruce, like Obelix, seems to have drank the magic potion to counter it...

Encroach At Your Peril

Beware the free-kick spray...
We'll be honest, when we first read that the Argentina Football Association were introducing a spray to stop footballers encroaching during a free-kick, we though it was mental. OK, so it's annoying to have a free-kick charged down when the defenders are only seven yards away, but pepper-spraying them in the eyes seems a little harsh. Even by Argentinian standards.

But alas that is not the case, as the spray in fact produces a white mark on the pitch that lasts 30 seconds before disappearing, allowing the referee to clearly mark out the ten yards. Don't believe us? See the full story here...
