Catflap interview Scottish band shocker...

Clearly it's Scottish band Friday, as, not content with giving you the insights of The View today, we've also got Glasgow-based new kids on the block Attic Lights. That's the band called Attic Lights, not New Kids On The Block... Anyway, we spoke to lead singer Kevin Sherry on God, his beloved Celtic, and how Pat Nevin is really cool...

Touring…
We’ve already done tours with The Fratellis, and we’ve done gigs with like thousands of people. Thousands? Maybe I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here.

Football…
We’ve got a couple of Celtic supporters, a Rangers supporter, and then we’ve got a Partick Thistle supporter, who never win anything. I’ve never quite understood it myself, but I guess that’s just me who supports a team that just kind of wins every so often, which we take great pleasure in constantly reminding Jamie…

Favourite Player…
Well as a Celtic fan, I’m a fan of Shaun Maloney, he’s just moved back from Aston Villa, he’s always been a good striker, and he’s got a lot of passion.

Old Firm…
Certainly gone are the days when (Mo) Johnston left Celtic for Rangers and became the vilified figure in Glasgow. I think its always a measure of how far things have come, when you go in a bar and you hear ‘Miller has moved to Rangers’ and you know, maybe, ten, fifteen years ago, somebody would be saying ‘that’s ridiculous, you cant have a Rangers player on the team’, but nowadays they’re saying you know, he’s actually quite good.

God…
Henrik Larsson, is referred to as God up at Parkhead, but in fact there’s that old joke, when an old Celtic captain passes away and goes to heaven and he’s walking about and there’s all these great dead footballers and then he sees Henrik Larsson running about with a football and he goes, ‘Henrik Larsson’s not dead’, and then one of them goes ‘oh that’s God, he just thinks he’s Henrik Larsson’.

Pat Nevin…
He’s a massive fan of Glasgow music, we always see him at gigs. I haven’t seen him at our gigs but we’ve been told he likes us. He’s a big fan of bands like Belle and Sebastian and Camera Obscura and in fact he does this thing in his punditry where he always tries to get song titles into what he’s saying, he managed to mention the name of Camera Obscura’s next album in his analysis of a game.

Supporting Scotland…
It’s so disheartening but I think George Burley has started doing his thing so hopefully, he’ll be able to inject some skill into them so they’re not so boring, there are a lot of good players and they do put their heart and soul into it.

World Cup Song…

I think we we’re talking about that, doing a world cup song, but it would be really hard. I think the most fitting world cup song there has ever been was the one that Del Amitri did for Scotland at France ’98, which was basically don’t come home too soon. Which just sums up the defeatist mentality we have in Scotland. I think we’d have to write something like: can you just win one game, please?

Their new single, Late Night Sunshine, is released digitally on Dec 8th
